Run the Office Volume License Pack executable file. This will install the Office Volume License Pack on the KMS host computer and then opens the Volume Activation Tools wizard. Follow the steps in the Volume Activation Tools wizard. Enter your KMS key when prompted. The installation is on an old drive that is still connected to the system, but from my findings I'm unable to just move the installation folder and have it work. Office 2010 was to be originally released to business customers on May 12, 2010, however it was made available to Business customers with Software Assurance on April 27, 2010, and to other Volume Licensing Customers on May 1. MSDN and TechNet subscribers have been able to download the RTM version since April 22, 2010. Run the Office Volume License Pack executable file. This will install the Office Volume License Pack and opens the Volume Activation Tools wizard. Choose Next, and then on the Select Volume Activation Method page, choose Active Directory-Based Activation.

Office 2010 will require either a MAK (Multiple Activation Key) or a KMS Key (the new volume lenience key, since Vista/Server 2008). You will only need one KMS server for your organization to serve out activations for both Windows Operating Systems and Office 2010.

Step 1: Download your Office Product and KMS Key from Microsoft Licensing

Download this .exe from Microsoft and install it on your current KMS server. It will ask you for your Office 2010 KMS key and then activate it against Microsoft's Activiation Servers.

Volume Licensing Service Center

The Host Service Pack can only be installed on Server 2003, Server 2008 R2 or Volume Licence edition of Windows 7.

Once the key has activated you will receive a message indicating that the activation was successful.

Step 3: Let your clients with Office 2010 activate to the new KMS host key

You're all set, your clients should now activate to your KMS server.

The KMS Host key for Office 2010 is somewhat different than that of the client OS's, as it will only take 5 users running Office 2010 for the KMS to activate them, as compared to the 25 hosts required for client OS's.
Also, if a client is off of the network and does not contact the KMS server after 180 days the user will receive a message when they open Office stating that the product is unlicensed, however, it will continue to work with no loss of functionality. Once the user connect to the network with the KMS host the error will go away and the re-activation process will be transparent to the end user.

    Mu origin speed hack. I called MS to find out how I add the Office 2010 KMS to the KMS server and the rep had no idea why it was not working because he verified that the KMS Key I was using was valid and functional.

    it's bad when Google gives you a linke to Spiceworks for something like this before it goes to MS.

    FYI, if you want to verify that your Office 2010 KMS is installed correctly you need to [b]run cscript slmgr.vbs /dli all[/b] and look through the list for the Office product line.

    What sucks is that I now have to create a new KMS host as this can't be installed on the Server 2008 KMS host I already have.
