Released in 1991 and developed by Lucasfilm Games (later renamed LucasArts), Monkey Island 2 LeChuck's Revenge is a point & click adventure game and is the sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island. The game is considered to be the best in the Monkey Island series by most of its fans, as well as one of the best adventure games. A year or so after the events of Monkey Island 1, wannabe pirate and ghost pirate LeChuck slayer Guybrush Threepwood is on Scabb Island, and has broken up with his sweetheart Elain Marley. Guybrush seeks legendary treasure Big Whoop, and to regain his 'snuggle bunny' Elaine's love. But mostly to find Big Whoop. Monkey 2 is much larger than the first game and has 2 difficulty settings (a first for the genre, if I'm not wrong). The player can travel to several islands as there are many characters to meet and puzzles to solve. The game is also funnier than the first and is still as hilarious today as it was back in 1991. The SCUMM interface engine was slightly improved and is a little more efficient and user friendly. Monkey Island 2 is also the first game to use sound designers and composers Michael Land and Peter McConnel's iMuse system: a groundbreaking interactive sound system that changes the music depending on what the player interacts with. ---Though a few of the puzzles can have a 'how the hell was I supposed to know that' feel to them, Monkey Island 2 portrays most of what's so great about the point & click adventure genre: excellent writing, characters, scenarios, music, and locations. It may not be my favorite PC adventure game (that's Grim Fandango) or even my favorite Monkey Island game (that's Curse), it is one of LucasArts' best work, and one of the genre's greatest games.
